Chapter 7 - The House Where Nobody Had to Be Afraid Anymore

The confrontation did not happen in Daniel's living room.

It happened in a quiet conference room with attorneys present.

Vivian arrived dressed perfectly.

Hair immaculate.

Makeup subtle.

Voice wounded.

She began with tears.

She spoke about sacrifice.

Family.

Respect.

Ungrateful children.

Then Daniel's attorney played the recording.

Vivian stopped crying.

Nobody said anything while her own voice filled the room.

Emma's weak pleading.

Oliver's cries.

Vivian's commands.

The footage ended.

For several seconds, Vivian remained perfectly still.

Then she looked at Daniel.

“You would destroy your own mother over one bad morning?”

Daniel finally understood.

She still believed the problem was exposure.

Not what she had done.

“No,” he said.

“You did this yourself.”

Natalie placed her old diary on the table.

“And it wasn't one morning.”

For the first time in decades, Vivian had no story powerful enough to erase the truth.
