Chapter 7 - The Woman Who Refused to Die Alone

The shareholder meeting became a battlefield.

Renee arrived in a wheelchair.

The room erupted.

Victor stood.

“Renee, this is irresponsible.”

She looked at him.

“No.”

Her voice was weak.

“But you are.”

The board moved to remove her.

Victor presented medical documents claiming Renee was mentally and physically incapable of leading the company.

Then Renee stood.

The room went silent.

“I may be sick,” she said, “but I'm not stupid.”

Screens around the room suddenly activated.

Bank transfers appeared.

Offshore accounts.

Secret contracts.

Medical records.

Surveillance files.

Every illegal transaction Victor had hidden for years.

Victor's face drained of color.

He tried to leave.

Federal agents entered.

Victor turned toward Renee.

“You think you've won?”

Renee smiled.

“No.”

She looked at Daniel.

“I know we've won.”

Victor revealed one final weapon.

He claimed Daniel had been paid twelve million dollars to manipulate Renee.

The accusation spread instantly.

The press erupted.

Daniel didn't defend himself.

Instead, Renee walked toward him.

“I hired him.”

Victor smiled.

“Exactly.”

Renee turned to the cameras.

“But I never expected him to become the only person who told me the truth.”

She revealed the original contract.

Daniel had agreed to pretend to be her partner.

But he had never taken a single dollar.

He had placed the entire twelve million into a trust for Lily.

Victor's expression changed.

Daniel looked at Renee.

“I didn't want your money.”

“I know.”

“What happens now?”

Renee smiled.

“Now we save my company.”

Then she nearly collapsed.

Her transplant had to happen immediately.

Renee's mother arrived at the hospital.

For the first time in twenty-six years, mother and daughter held each other.

“I should have found you.”

“You were protecting me.”

“I should have protected you better.”

Renee cried.

“I thought you left me.”

Her mother held her tighter.

“I never left.”

The transplant began.

Daniel waited outside.

Hours passed.

Then Dr. Vance finally emerged.

“She made it through.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

For the first time in years, he cried.

Not from grief.

From relief.

But one question remained.

Would Renee survive?
